Introduction:

A major person who contributed to history was Oliver O. Howard. Oliver O. Howard was a white man who noticed a racial problem that was separating our nation. The problem was that people from different races were not getting the same education as everyone else, for an example some were able to learn more than others because they were well supplied with the materials they needed in order to receive a good education. So after he noticed the racial problem he created an African American school called Howard University, which allow everyone to receive the same education.

Thesis:

Due to the separation from blacks and white that created a conflict, which demanded different races to attend separate schools. Oliver O. Howard created an all African American school that gave different people an opportunity to receive the same education as everyone else.

This person is important to history because he created a school for all Africans Americans. This was important to history was now black are able to go to a school that they are welcome to. On my next service-learning meeting I plan on researching the names of the authors of the books I would like in the library. My independent service learning:

After I completed my service learning I was glad that it was over. We had to complete 15 hours and for them I did street clean up, decorating, clean up a house and ect. So independent service learning is over until next year and then I will try to complete more hours. I just it is good to do service learning because you are helping people in need.

Reflection: Thursday

On Thursday we all start to gather the names of book publishers that we would like to write letters to so the can donate book to our school. So we just went on different web sires to find the different types of book and the publisher’s names so we can have books the children would like to read. I also found a list of the names of publishers from a-z.

My plans for Thursday May 15 meeting:

On May 15th I plan on finishing dust and placing the rest of the book on the shelf in the closet. When I am finished that I will start looking up people to donate book or go through the books on the shelf. I think that these web sites: Amazon.com, ebay.com and google.com because on Amazon and eBay you can look up different book and get the author name then google to look up the author and see if they could donate some books.

Reflection: May 9, 2008

Having a chance to do service learning I learn that our library need a lot of work because we need new books that the students would like to read, the old and dirty looking book need to be removed from the shelf and we have to take the books out of the closet to dust them off and place them on the shelf. During service learning I did not learn anything about myself that I did not know. If I was in charge of the group we would rotate the things that we do like putting to stickers on the books, going through the old books, dusting off the books in the closet and writing letters to get books donated because we need different ideas for the type of books we would like in the library.

Service Learning: Plans for thursday meeting

On Thursday we will plan to start cleaning the books because we did get a chance to start on the last meeting because someone came to talk to us and said that if we owe any books we barrowed from the libary and did not return. When we are done cleaning the book I plane on placing them neatly on the shelf. Then start gathering new book to bring in.

Reflection:

Yesterday when I did service learning when deiced that we were going to start cleaning and organizing the books on your next meeting. We also said that we were going to attend this program called ‘’Yes’’ at the free library of Philadelphia. We talked about different types we would like and we also got a few samples.

Service Learning: Reflection

On friday we had the meeting for our group service project. I choose to do my group service learning on fix up the school library. We plan to bring in new book to the library of the children choice, organize them in different categories and and take the old books out. I think that we can improve our topic by making the book display look interesting and my people went to read the books. I don’t have any questions.

Service Learning

When I first had to choose a topic that I would like to do my Service Learning on u had a list of ideas that I could choose from. I either wanted to work at a nursing home or at the library or something like that. At the end I chose to work at the library with my sisters and her friends.

Reflection:

I choose to do my NHD project by my self and when I first started NHD it was not that stressful and I had a lot of time to do my project. When it was almost time to have my project completed it just started to get harder and harder because I was running out of time. I choose to do my project on Move, which I believe was a good topic. My project type was an Exbit board and it was kind of easy to do. All you really had to do was make an outline of your topic so you would have a good idea how you would want your board to look like. The next step for me was cutting out the letter to put on my board because I had a different title for each side of the board. After my letters were cut out I had to cover my board and my panel piece. When I covered the board all I had to do was gather my research and my pictures so I could place it on the board. That was not really a lot to do so that is why is was kind of easy. When NHD was over I learned that you can’t do anything at the last minute and I also learn a lot about my topic.

Parents should be able to beat their childern

Should parents be able to hit their children? Well I think that parent should be able to beat their children. The reasons I think they should because children discipline, they need to learn right from wrong, and to make sure they behave.

First of all, I think that parents should be able to beat their children because they need discipline. Think about it if your children are acting up and you don’t say any thing they will keep doing it over and over again, after you told them not to. If they don’t listen to you when you tell them to do something then when will they. When you tell them to go do something and they just sit there and ignore you they are being disrespectful. You would need to get their attention and if they wont listen to you then what else can you do. So would you want you own children to disrespect you like that.

Secondly, I think that parents should be able to beat their children because they need learn right from wrong. If you children are not listening to you and the only thing they respond to is when you beat them that is what you need to beat them. If they want listen then you need to beat them when they are doing something wrong they might think that is the right thing to do. They might thing that it is ok to talk back or get smart. They might grow up be a disrespectful person.

Lastly, I think that parents should be able to beat their children so they will have good behavior and know how to act to just only in public places. If you don’t beat your children because they are doing something wrong then will keep doing the same thing over and over again and that is sign of bad behavior. If you don’t tell them to sop what they were doing they might think it is ok to misbehave. Do you really want children who misbehave all the time?

To sum it up, I think that parents should be able to beat their children because they need discipline, they need to learn right from wrong, and to make sure they behave. If you don’t then they wont learn not to be disrespectful or they won’t learn from their mistakes. They will talk be and they won’t listen to you. Do you want children who are that disrespectful?
